Tuesday NHL action features the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins shut down the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Sunday for their 4thwin in five contests. Jacob Slavin scored the only Hurricanes goal in the third and Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 28 shots to get the loss.

Garrett Wilson and Matt Cullen lit the lamp in the first and Patric Hornqvist tallied in the third for a 3-0 Pittsburgh lead. Adam Johnson posted a pair of assists for the Penguins who received 37 stops from Matt Murray.

The Detroit Red Wings stayed hot with a 6-3 victory against visiting Boston on Sunday for their 7thwin in eight games. Boston received second period goals from Jake DeBrusk, Brad Marchand and David Backes. David Krejci assisted twice for the Bruins and Jaroslav Halak was charged with five goals on 27 shots.

Anthony Mantha scored twice in the first and again in the third for a hat trick while Taro Hirose, Filip Hronek and Dylan Larkin reached the scoring column for Detroit. Mantha and Tyler  Bertuzzi each added three helpers and Jimmy Howard stopped 31 shots to get the win for the Red Wings.

Penguins are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Atlantic and Penguins are 4-1 in their last 5 overall and Penguins are 4-1 in their last 5 road games.

Red Wings are 5-0 in their last 5 overall and Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win and Red Wings are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.

Home team is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings and over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Detroit.

The Red Wings are playing their best hockey of the year although the odds don’t indicate that. I’d do something on Detroit or the over to keep interested…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
