The Red Wings look to make some waves in the Atlantic division standings with a home ice win over the Sharks at the Joe on Friday night.
The San Jose Sharks head into Joe Louis Arena on Friday looking to snap their two game losing skid and will have to do so amid trade rumors surrounding Patrick Marleau which has come to the forefront thanks to San Jose's inconsistent play. The Sharks are just 3-7 in their last 10 contests yet somehow sit in fourth place in the Pacific division and are just five points out of first. The Sharks made a great move by acquiring Martin Jones to be the team's goalie of the future and he has been the lone bright spot for this team as he will likely get the call in this one as he faces off against Jimmy Howard. San Jose is 4-3 on the road while the Red Wings are 4-4 at home.
The Red Wings are coming of a shutout victory in their last outing and can move into second place in the Atlantic with a victory here in a game that looks to be in their favour thanks to the recent play of their opponents. Detroit is an interesting team this year as they don't seem to have the fire power they once had and the roster is filled with some unknowns to the casual fan but all of that could change tonight as Pavel Dastyuk is expected to make his season debut. Add that to the fact that San Jose has been very underwhelming for the most part and I think the Wings get the victory at home at a nice price.
