The Tampa Bay Lightning look to follow up their win in New York last night as they head into the Joe to face off with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Lightning blanked the Islanders to the tune of a 4-0 final last night and will head into Detroit looking for a similar outcome in a show down of Atlantic division rivals. The Bolts came into this season as a consensus playoff threat and a Cup contender in many circles and so far they haven’t disappointed as they are very much in the race in the early part of the season. Tampa Bay is expected to send Ben Bishop to the crease after Andrei Vasilevskiy got the shutout last night, and with a potential trade looming for the lengthy Bolts goalie he will be out to prove his worth and draw a list of capable suitors.
The Red Wings meanwhile have faltered of late after getting off to a strong start but they are still a very good team when playing at home and will be out for a strong effort against the Lightning. Detroit knows full well who to watch out for on the Tampa side of the ice but the problem is being able to slow all of them down as they have a very fast, skilled team that should be able to move the puck at will against a Wings side that was expected to hit a regression this season. Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start in the Detroit crease as he sees more and more time as the team’s starting goalie.
The Bolts are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and 1-4 in their last five road games while the Wings are 1-4 in their last five home games and 1-7 in their last eight against the Atlantic. Tampa is the better team and showed why last night and I think they get it done again here against a slumping Wings team.
