The Lightning look to continue their recent success against the Red Wings as the two Atlantic division foes meet up at the Joe on Tuesday night.
The Tampa Bay Lightning return to the scene that propelled them through the Eastern Conference playoffs last season as they win a pivotal game seven in Detroit to advance to the second round. The Bolts established themselves as one of the league's best thanks to their playoff run and it was almost all for not as the Wings had them on the ropes in the first round and should have eliminated them but came up short in the series decider. Now, the teams renew hostilities as Lighting GM and long time Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman heads into town looking to extend their three points lead on the Wings in the division and break out of their underwhelming 3-5-2 mark in their last 10 games. Beni Bishop is expected to start as he will go up against Jimmy Howard.
The Red Wings have been up and down to start the season but it is clear they are missing Pavel Dastyuk as their offense has been rather dry through 11 games as they sit in the bottom half of the league in goals scored. Detroit has always been known as a tough place for visitors to earn points but the Lightning have had no trouble in doing so over the last season and a bit and the Wings know that if they're going to regain some momentum in this rivalry they need to defend their home arena and that starts with a big effort here tonight. Unfortunately, the Wings haven't played very good hockey to start the year and while Tampa hasn't been lights out like many expected I think we see an inspired effort here on the road.
