The Tampa Bay Rays visit Joe Louis Arena to match up with the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
The Detroit Red Wings might have stole game one with just a 14 shot performance somehow turning in to a 3-2 victory. However they couldn’t duplicate that performance and expect another road win at Tampa Bay. The Wings did fire off 24 shots in game number two but that fell well short in a 5-1 defeat that evened the series at a game apiece. Detroit faced a 4-0 deficit before finally getting on the scoreboard at 5:49 of the third when Tomas Tater netted a rebound off of a Kyle Quincy blast but that was all she wrote for the offense. Petr Mrazek wasn’t nearly as effective as he was in game one with four goals allowed on 18 shots before Jimmy Howard came on in relief and gave up a goal on 12 shots.
The Tampa Bay Rays did everything but win their Stanley Cup playoff opener with Detroit as they outshot the Wings 46-14 yet somehow came up with the loss. The Lightning made sure that didn’t happen a second time as they dominated both ends of the ice on the way to a one sided 5-1 victory in game number two to even the series at a game apiece as the series shifts to the Motor City for game three. Tyler Johnson paced the Tampa offense with a pair of goals while Alex Killhorn, Andrej Sustr and Valtteri Filppula each found the back of the net with Filppula adding an assist. Ben Bishop made sure there was no repeat of the opener as he picked up the win with a 23 stop performance which ended a six game slide for the Lightning in the postseason.
