The Line: Detroit Red Wings +158 / Toronto Maple Leafs -175 --- Over/Under: 6
The Toronto Maple Leafs take the ice in the Motor City in a Thursday NHL tilt.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been quick out of the gate with a 3-1 record after a 7-4 win at Dallas Tuesday gave the team consecutive road victories. Dallas received scoring from Alexander Radulov, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and John Klingberg but Ben Bishop struggled in goal with six goals allowed on 29 shots.
The explosive Maple Leafs saw Auston Mathews and John Tavares score two times each with Mitch Marner, Ron Hainsey and Connor Brown also lighting the lamp. Morgan Rielly added four helpers with Marner assisting on three to make a winner of Frederik Andersen and his 30 saves.
The Detroit Red Wings are still searching for their first victory with their offense producing six goals in three games. Detroit comes off of a 3-2, SO loss at Anaheim on Monday. Tyler Bertuzzi and Darren Helm lit the lamp for the Red Wings while Jimmy Howard allowed two goals on 27 shots.
The Ducks received goals off the sticks of Hampus Lindholm and Jakob Silfverberg in regulation while Troy Terry beat Howard for the only goal of the shootout. John Gibson stayed unbeaten for Anaheim with a 19 stop effort.
Over is 3-0-1 in Maple Leafs last 4 vs. a team with a losing record and over is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400 and Maple Leafs are 1-5 in their last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 4-0 in Red Wings last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and over is 7-1-1 in Red Wings last 9 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Red Wings are 1-5 in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. Under is 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings in Detroit and Maple Leafs are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and Maple Leafs are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Detroit.
I’m always hesitant to back the Maple Leafs because they do under perform when least expected so take that in to consideration…
