The Maple Leafs look to shake off their first loss of the season after dropping their opener against the Canadiens as they head into Detroit to take on the Red Wings.
The Maple Leafs aren't expected to do much this season as they are undergoing a massive overhaul but it was nice to see how competitive and tenacious they were in their season opener and while many can argue that it was their first game of the season and everyone is playing with intensity they could surprise some teams with how much they fight. Toronto heads into the Motor City to face off against the Red Wings who are playing in their season opener and it marks the first game Mike Babcock is back in his old building as the long time Wings bench boss will be wearing blue and white this season and for many more to come. Jonathan Bernier is expected to get the start once agauin as he will go up against Jimmy Howard.
The Red Wings underwent some serious changes in the off season with the biggest coming behind the bench as out is Babcock and in is Jeff Blashill who will have big shoes to fill after the stacks of accolades his predecessor piled up in his time with Detroit. The Wings were a playoff team last year and should be back once again if they can get everyone healthy but until then it could be a bit of a bumpy ride. Detroit does have a lot of depth luckily but will be without Pavel Datsyuk for the first part of the season and while that may come into play against some teams I don't see it being an issue here as the Wings should have no trouble against a Leafs team already looking ahead to Saturday's show down with Ottawa.
