The Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Detroit Red Wings in Friday NHL action.

The Toronto Maple Leafs went in the All Star break off of a 6-3 victory against visiting Washington. Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin and Matt Niskanen scored for the Capitals. TJ Oshie logged a pair of assists and Braden Holtby took the loss for Washington with five goals allowed on 36 shots.

Nazem Kadri was the big gun for the Maple Leafs with a hat trick with Nikita Zaitsev, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner also lighting the lamp. Morgan Rielly and Connor Brown assisted twice and William Nylander added three helpers for Toronto to make a winner of Frederik Andersen and his 41 saves.

The Detroit Red Wings ended the first half of the season with a 3-2 victory at Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl and Matt Benning lit the lamp for Edmonton in the third period. Draisaitl also posted an assist for the Oilers who saw Mikko Koskinen allow three goals on 27 shots to get the loss.

Luke Glendening supplied markers in the second and third while Dylan Larkin scored in the second for Detroit. Andreas Athanasiou posted a pair of helpers for the Red Wings and Jimmy Howard got the win with 32 stops.

Under is 3-0-1 in Maple Leafs last 4 Friday games and Maple Leafs are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and under is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 road games. Red Wings are 0-6 in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and over is 7-0 in Red Wings last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and Red Wings are 1-8 in their last 9 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Maple Leafs are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Detroit and Maple Leafs are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.

Toronto has been dominant in this matchup but they are big favorites which rubs me the wrong way. I’d either take a chance with the over or Detroit or sit this one out…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
