It is a rematch of the 2014 Winter Classic on Tuesday night as the Maple Leafs head into Joe Louis Arena to face off against the Red Wings.
The Maple Leafs will look to reclaim their spot in third place in the Eastern Conference with a victory in Detroit on Tuesday as the battle for playoff seeds heats up down the stretch. The Leafs had a very successful road trip in California as they went 2-1 against three of the best teams in the league but were dealt a dose of reality at the hands of the Capitals in Washington in their last outing. Toronto is a very funny team as it seems very predictable with how they’re going to play based on their competition and they seem to find a way to beat the good teams and flop against the middle of the pack. The Leafs will turn to James Reimer once again as Jonathan Bernier continues to nurse an injury but the Leafs have had Detroit’s number and will look for another win here tonight.
The Red Wings have been a tough team to figure out this season as they have a ton of talent on their roster and expectations were sky high after their move to the Eastern Conference but they are scratching their way trying to stay relevant and could miss the playoffs altogether. Detroit is still without Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg who could be out until the playoffs and while Detroit has a number of capable replacements to fill the void those are two of the best in the world and their absence is being felt greatly. Jimmy Howard will look to push the Wings into ninth with a victory but they will need some help to get into the playoffs and games like this against other playoff teams is where they need to step up. Unfortunately for them I think the Jekyll and Hyde stretch continues for the Buds and I see them responding after a tough loss against the Caps and they get the two points on the road.
