|Date & Time||Saturday April 1, 2017, 7:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Detroit Red Wings +122 / Toronto Maple Leafs -135 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Toronto Maple Leafs take the ice in the Motor City against the Detroit Red Wings in NHL hockey action.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have earned a reputation for lighting up the scoreboard with their high octane offense so when scoring is difficult, the team needs their defense and goaltending to step up and help out. That plan worked to perfection Thursday as the Maple Leafs relied on their defense to upend the Nashville Predators 3-1 on the road. James van Riemsdyk and Auston Matthews paced the Leafs offense with each scoring on the man advantage before Connor Brown’s empty net tally in the closing minute secured the victory. Frederik Andersen returned to the nets after suffering an upper body injury that cost him two games and he showed no signs of rust with 29 stops to get the win. The Predators lone goal came from Filip Fosberg with Pekka Rinne getting the loss on a 14 save effort.
Time might be running out on the postseason hopes of the Tampa Bay Lightning as they try to chase down the Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card. The Lightning need to keep winning and hope the Bruins lose as they remained three points behind their Atlantic Division rivals after downing the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 on Thursday behind some big offense. Jonathan Drouin and Alex Killhorn ave Tampa Bay goals on the power play with Andrej Sustr, JT Brown and Yanni Gourde and JT Brown also reaching the scoring column to make a winner of Andrei Vaslevskiy and his 31 stop performance. The Red Wings offense came off the sticks of Danny DeKeyser, Frans Nielsen and Mike Green with Petr Mrazek stopping 26 shots in the defeat.
The Maple Leafs are 5-1 in their last 6 overall and the Maple Leafs are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference while the Maple Leafs are 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Red Wings are 4-1 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and the under is 8-2 in Red Wings last 10 home games while the Red Wings are 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. The under is 6-0-1 in the last 7 meetings in Detroit and the Maple Leafs are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the under is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings.
The under has been the best bet in this match up and the Maple Leafs have done well also and they are my lean pending goalies…
