The Red Wings look to sustain some momentum after a win in Ottawa as they return home to take on the Capitals at the Joe.
The Capitals head into Detroit on Wednesday night looking to chip away at the deficit they face in the Metro division and with this being one of the two games in hand the caps have on the Rangers they could very well pull to within five points by the end of the night. Washington is 11-4-1 on the season and look like a team ready to contend for a Stanley Cup but we have seen this on a number of occasions from the Caps and until they actually get into the postseason and do some damage they will always be labeled as a regular season warrior without any playoff success. The Caps will look to Braden Holtby here as he will go up against Jimmy Howard.
The Red Wings are coming off an overtime win against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night and they can pull into a second place tie with them by the end of the night if they can grab two points from the Capitals. Detroit hasn't had the most inspiring start to the season as they are 9-8-1 at the quarter season mark but they are certainly in the mix in the division race in terms of landing a home ice playoff spot as they are already 11 points back of the Canadiens. Detroit is just 4-5 at the Joe this season while the Caps are 5-2 on the road which makes this a tough pick as the Wings are a home dog and usually thrive in that spot. Unfortunately, this Caps team is too talented and I think they demonstrate that tonight in the Motor City.
