The Anaheim Ducks continue their Western Canada road swing as they head into Edmonton to face off with the Oilers on Saturday night.
The Ducks have had a miserable season and are likely going to finish the season in the mix for a top draft pick and things don’t get any easier for them on Saturday as they take on a frustrated Oilers side looking for a late season surge. The Ducks were expected to be in the mix for the playoffs in the Western Conference this season but things haven’t worked out as planned and now they could very well be looking a rebuild with first overall projection Jack Hughes at the center of it. Anaheim though has dominated the Oilers over the years and have an impressive 19-7 mark in their last 26 trips to Edmonton and have won 36 of their last 52 meetings overall and that trend could very well continue here as the Oilers have been terribly inconsistent this season.
The Oilers are a paltry 7-20 in their last 27 games and have fallen out of discussion as a potential playoff contender, yet they are still very much alive in the race for a spot in the Pacific division or a wild card berth. Edmonton will be without Connor McDavid for this one and their next game as he has been suspended for a check to the head and without him the Oilers are a shell of their former selves and will be in trouble here in the offensive zone. Edmonton will need someone other than McDavid’s linemate Leon Draisaitl to step up as they are 1-4 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and have hit the Under in 6 of their last 10 games as a favorite with two pushes in the mix as well.
The Ducks are 6-20 in their last 26 games overall and are coming off a game last night in Calgary while the Oilers are 1-4 in their last 5 against a team from the Western Conference and are coming off an overtime win against the New York Islanders. Without McDavid the Oilers are in trouble here and the Ducks are worth a shot based on their success against Edmonton in the past.
