Edmonton Oilers -130 / Buffalo Sabres +108 -- Over/Under: 5.5
SN-West, TVA, MSG-Buffalo
The Buffalo Sabres and the Edmonton Oilers meet in NHL action from Rogers Place on Monday night.
The Buffalo Sabres come into this game looking to rebound after a 5-3 loss to Tampa Bay in their last outing. Tampa took the lead just :26 into the game before Sam Reinhart tied the game up for Buffalo and Tage Thompson scored with :10 left to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. Tampa scored the lone goal of the 2nd frame to give us a 2-2 tie after the 2nd period before Marco Scandella re-took the lead for Buffalo in the 3rd. The lead lasted all of :23 as Tampa would tie the game before taking the lead for good with just over five minutes to play. The Bolts added an insurance goal as well to make sure that Buffalo went home empty-handed. Linus Ullmark took the loss, falling to 9-3-3 this season after giving up all 5 goals on 30 shots in the losing effort.
The Edmonton Oilers will look to rebound after suffering a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Arizona Coyotes in their last outing. Connor McDavid gave Edmonton an early lead after the opening period to take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission. Arizona tied and took the lead in a span of 1:52 early in the 2nd before Kris Russell tied the game up, giving us a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes of play. Arizona re-took the lead for good early in the final frame to seal Edmonton’s fate as the Oilers wouldn’t find the back of the net in the final 20 minutes. Cam Talbot took the loss, falling to 9-13-2 after allowing all 3 goals on 29 shots in the losing effort.
Buffalo is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 69-150 in their last 219 road games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Edmonton is 1-6 in their last 7 home games and 3-9 in their last 12 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Buffalo is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Edmonton.
Buffalo is far removed from the team that won 10 in a row earlier this season, but the fact is that both of these teams need this win with both being in close proximity to their respective wild card spots. However, while Buffalo on the road has been a profitable road fade for quite some time, the Sabres have had a lot of success in this matchup, both overall and in Edmonton. This game is more of a coin flip in my eyes and in spots like this I try to go where the better odds are, so I’ll take Buffalo and the plus money in this one given their success against the Oilers.
