The Oilers look to improve on their respectable home ice record on Monday as they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Rexall Place.
The Carolina Hurricanes take to the road looking to continue their ascent up the Metro division standings as their recent surge has them in sixth place and chasing down the Penguins and Devils as we approach the mid way point of the season. Carolina was expected to be among the league doormats this season and while they started off that way they have played much better of late and could very well surprise everyone by landing a wild card spot. The Canes though look like a team poised to be sellers at the trade deadline and as such I think they will take a nose dive at the season progresses despite playing in a division that is jammed in the middle and seemingly wide open beyond the Capitals right now.
The Oilers meanwhile are in a similar predicament as they continue to battle through an injury riddled season that has hampered expectations a bit and will hope they can sustain some kind of momentum until they get Connor McDavid and Nail Yakupov back. In the interim though they have gotten spectacular play out of Taylor Hall and Leon Draisatl and when the youngsters return the Oil could go on a run thanks to a weak Pacific division that is separated by just five points from second through to seventh. Edmonton to me is the better of these two teams and I think they give the home fans another big outing.
