The Oilers look for their third straight win on Wednesday night as they host the suddenly slumping Detroit Red Wings at Rexall Place.
The Red Wings head into Edmonton on Wednesday looking to snap their two game losing skid and get back in the race in the Atlantic division with a big time win against an Oilers group coming off two pivotal wins against division rivals. The Wings are still without Pavel Datsyuk but but have a ton of weapons that gives them one of the deepest teams in the NHL but so far they have average three goals a game and sit third to last in the division in goals scored. Detroit will go with petr Mrazek here and I think they will lean on him more and more as the season progresses as Jimmy Howard has struggled over the last season and a bit and could very well be on the move this season if a team is desperate for a goaltender.
The Oilers meanwhile looked like they were going to be more of the same thanks to a lousy start to the year but you have to give them full credit as they have responded nicely against two of their bitter rivals and went into Calgary and Vancouver and grabbed four points. Connor McDavid had a pair against the Flames and is starting to get rolling and if he and Taylor Hall continue to build their chemistry they could very well take over the West this season as one of the best tandems in the NHL. Edmonton still has a ways to go yet but a nice two game stretch leading into a home date with the Wings should have the crowd fired up and while I am not happy with the Oilers favoured in this spot I think we have to take them here.
