The Oilers look to keep their success on home ice in tow as they welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to town on Friday night.
The Bolts head into Edmonton on Friday looking to rebound after a loss in their last outing and start their ascent back up the Atlantic division standings in what has otherwise been an “unacceptable” start to the season according to captain Steven Stamkos. Tampa is coming off their first Eastern Conference title since 2004 and were projected by many to get back to that stage at the very least with a handful of prognosticators pegging them as the best in the NHL in the preseason. Tampa is 19-17-4 this season and are 12 points back of their divisional and in-state rivals from Sunrise who lead the way with an impressive 25-12-4 record. Tampa is 9-9-2 on the road this season while Edmonton is 12-7-1 at home.
The Oilers have benefitted from a sluggish start from the majority of the Pacific division and as such if they can wweather the storm a little longer and add some pieces at the trade deadline they could very well get into the playoffs. Connor McDavid is expected back in the Edmonton lineup soon and he would be an immediate boost to the Edmonton offense and if he can return to pre-injury form and with Taylor Hall being one of the best in the league this season there is certainly hope in the City of Champions that they can once again live up to that moniker. Edmonton has been good at home and while Tampa is a desperate team I think the Oil can get the win here.
