The Edmonton Oilers return home after a successful road trip and look to keep the winning going at home as they face Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.
The Capitals have won two games in a row after an ugly slide had their fans worrying for the worst this season and they’ll be looking for their fifth win overall and move back to .500 with a win in Edmonton. Alex Ovechkin has carried his weight for the Caps leading them team in points as he ranks near the top of the NHL lead and with the secondary scoring taking flight against the Jets on Tuesday Capitals fans can be at ease on that front. Braden Holtby stills need some adjusting in the Capitals’ crease as he has played well under expectation this season but with a couple solid games to build his confidence he could propel himself back into contention for starter’s minutes in Sochi.
The Oilers are a very funny bunch to analyze as they dropped some laughers at home against low quality opponents then go on the road and take the Leafs to a shootout in a game they should have won, and then defeat the Senators and Canadiens in successive games without arguably their best player. So determining which Oilers team will show up on any given night is going to be the most frustrating part of rookie head coach Dallas Eakins’ season and I think that inconsistency could end up costing the Oilers a playoff spot for the eighth straight year. While I am hoping that the Oil can prove me wrong here I am going to go with my instinct here and say the Oilers lay an egg in their first game back after a successful road trip and with the way the Caps are playing at the moment I don’t think there Is any argument against that.
