The Edmonton Oilers look to continue their strong play against the Winnipeg Jets as the two sides meet up at Rogers Place on Sunday.
The Jets look to exact some revenge after the Oilers bested the Jets in Winnipeg earlier this season but they will have their work cut out for them as the Oilers have struggled to close games out and despite being competitive they are in the midst of a tough losing streak. Winnipeg has been up and down so far this season but have some positives to look at as Mark Schiefele and Patrik Laine have been remarkable and are filling up the stats sheet, but overall the Jets have been modest and will need to turn things up if they’re going to be competitive in the Western Conference this season. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to get the call in the Winnipeg crease as he will face off against Cam Talbot who has been very serviceable since signing with the Oilers before last season.
The Oilers meanwhile have their own offensive superstar as Connor McDavid is proving why he is a generational talent and the next face of the NHL as he leads the league in points scored and is the clear cut leader of this Edmonton franchise. Edmonton will look for another win against their rivals from Winnipeg and will need McDavid and company to have a strong game in the offensive zone as the Jets have some solid blue liners and some two way forwards who can disrupt the play of Edmonton’s team speed.
The Jets are 7-2 in their last nine against the Pacific and 2-6 in their last eight road games while the Oilers are 0-4 in their last four overall and 19-43 in their last 62 against the Central. Edmonton will be well rested while the Jets are in a back to back and I think Edmonton gets another home ice win on Sunday.
