The Oilers look to embrace the spoiler role as they host the Winnipeg Jets to town on Monday who are in the midst of a wild card playoff push.
The Jets head into Edmonton on Monday looking to extend their lead in the wild card standings in the Western Conference and perhaps chase down the Wild and Blackhawks in the process and as winners of four in a row they'll be soaring with confidence in this one. The Jets have been one of the league's most impressive teams and look like they're going to finally break through the playoff barrier – a place they haven't been since returning to Winnipeg and if they get in who knows how far they can go as they have a great roster poised for playoff hockey. Winnipeg has been good on home ice this year but have been more impressive on the road as they struggled mightily outside of Manitoba last year and if they can get a win here tonight they would register their 19th road victory and jump six points clear of the Kings for the second wild card spot.
The Oilers have started to come along nicely over the last few weeks and now they have their best player back in the lineup as Taylor Hall returned to action over the weekend in an overtime victory against the Flyers. Edmonton has had another disappointing season and while there have been moans and groans of this team not being able to take the next step they have done some serious progression in the second half of the season leaving a sense of optimism moving forward which will increase even more with some key off season transactions. Edmonton is in tough here but they will certainly give it their all but the play I like here is on the total and I think it stays under. Edmonton was very displeased with the way they opened the game against Philly on Saturday and vowed to play better defensively and the Jets have been playing under hockey of late and have received some stellar goaltending.
