NHL hockey comes to the BB&T Center on Tuesday when the Carolina Hurricanes visit the Florida Panthers.
Nothing has come easy for the Philadelphia Flyers even when winning. I say this after the Flyers squandered a 2-0 lead against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes before rallying late to force OT and then winning in the extra session for a 4-3 final. Brayden Schenn scored the winner a mere 38 seconds in to overtime which was made possible by a Travis Konecny tally with 43 second remaining in regulation. Dale Weiss and Ivan Provorov also scored for Philadelphia while Steve Mason recorded 19 saves in the victory to lift the Flyers t within five points of the second Wild Card. The Hurricanes offense saw Elias Lindholm, Jeff Skinner and Jordan Staal score while Cam Ward came up with a huge 40 saves in a losing effort.
I always say that the Pittsburgh Penguins are dangerous regardless of injuries which speaks volumes of the immense talent on the roster. The Penguins proved that point on Sunday afternoon as they overcame injuries to hand the visiting Florida Panthers a 4-0 setback. Of course, Sydney Crosby is healthy and almost single handed carried the Pens with a hat trick which gave him a league leading 40 goals while his 80 points has him tied for the most in the NHL. Patric Hornqvist also scored for the Penguins to provide more then enough support for Marc-Andre Fleury who brushed aside 21 shots to earn career shutout number 44. With the victory, Pitt is one point behind Washington and Columbus for the Metropolitan lead. The Panthers received 24 stops from James Reimer but he was on his own with no support.
The Hurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 Tuesday games and the over is 7-1 in Hurricanes last 8 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation while the over is 6-1 in Hurricanes last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. The under is 5-0-1 in Panthers last 6 games playing on 1 days rest and the Panthers are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest while the over is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Hurricanes are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in Florida and the Hurricanes are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings while the under is 12-5-5 in the last 22 meetings.
The Florida Panthers and the under have been productive in this match up and for now I’ll back Florida with goalies pending…
