NHL | Carolina Hurricanes (35-33-11) at Florida Panthers (39-30-8)

The BB&T Center and the Florida Panthers welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to town.

The Carolina Hurricanes have been playing well the past few weeks but it won’t be good enough with the team out of the postseason once again. Carolina comes in off of a 2-1 defeat to the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Jeff Skinner scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes with Cam Ward falling to 22-14-4 with 18 saves.  The Rangers received second period goals from Ryan Sproul and Kevin Hayes with Henrik Lundqvist recording 40 stops.

The Florida Panthers last ditch effort to make the postseason is going to come up short. Florida has dropped three in a row following a 5-1 loss at the Boston Bruins where Jamie McGinn scored the Panthers goal and James Reimer gave up five goals on 24 shots.

Jake DeBrusk topped the Bruins with a pair of goals with Nick Holden, Ryan Donato and Patrice Bergeron also lighting the lamp. David Krejci gave Boston a pair of helpers and Tuukka Rask got the win with a 30 save performance.

Hurricanes are 1-11 in their last 12 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and under is 8-2 in Hurricanes last 10 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation and over is 4-1 in Hurricanes last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 3-0-1 in Panthers last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and Panthers are 7-1 in their last 8 vs. Metropolitan. Over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings in Florida and Hurricanes are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Florida and Hurricanes are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

My thinking is the Panthers don’t want to be swept in the season series and my other thought is do I really need to bet this…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
