The Panthers look to shake off a loss to the Sens in the last outing as they host the Carolina Hurricanes in their regular season finale.
The Carolina Hurricanes finish their impressive season on the road against the Florida Panthers tonight with a chance to finish six games above the .500 mark and really set themselves up nicely heading into next season. The Canes were expected to be a league doormat this season but really exceeded expectations and were in the hunt for a wild card spot until they sputtered a bit down the stretch that essentially ended their bid for the playoffs. The Canes are 16-15-9 on the road this season and have dropped a whopping 16 contests in overtime or shootout this season and had they been able to channel some of those losses and turn them into wins we could be talking about their first round matchup in the Eastern Conference.
The Panthers meanwhile are the 2015-16 Atlantic division champions and will head into the playoffs with a first round matchup against the first wild card team which is still to be determined. The Cats have surprised a lot of people as well this season and while they were expected to be in the fold for a playoff spot I think very few had them pegged as a division winner as they are an impressive 20 games above the.500 mark and match up well with a lot of teams. Florida is playing in a game here though that doesn’t really matter to them one way or another and while they would like to finish the season on a winning note heading into the playoffs I can see them resting some guys here and with Carolina’s season coming to an end I think they have an all or nothing approach tonight.
