The Stars look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive as they head into Sunrise to take on the Panthers who are two points back of a playoff spot in the East.
The Dallas Stars have plummeted down the Western Conference standings after a run had them in contention for a wild card spot but with less than 20 games remaining and their best player still sidelined I think it is safe to say the Stars won't be playoff bound this season. Dallas had high hopes coming into the year but they didn't fabricate to on ice success and they will be forced to go back to the drawing board in the offseason and perhaps bring in some other pieces that will fir the mold of what they're trying to do. Kari Lehtonen will get the call as he will go up against Dan Ellis who is confirmed to start after both Al Montoya and Roberto Luongo went down with injury in the team's loss against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
The Panthers are a team that has been flying under the radar all season but their Cinderella run at a playoff spot could have come crashing down on Tuesday night as Roberto Luongo went down with an injury and his timetable for return is still uncertain. Luongo has been integral in the team's success this season and without him the Cats will hard pressed to generate sustained success as they don't have the offensive wherewithal to win them games. While Florida is the team in contention the Stars are better to me on paper with Luongo sidelined and I think Dallas can come in and make one final push at a wild card spot and that begins with a road win against Florida.
