FLA -300, O/U 6.5

The Detroit Red Wings head to Sunrise, Florida on Saturday for a game against the Panthers in a matchup of two teams from the Atlantic Division.  In their last game, the Red Wings were defeated by the Arizona Coyotes by the score of 5-2.  The Red Wings received goals from Filip Zadina and Tyler Bertuzzi, but it wasn’t enough to pull out a win against the Coyotes.  Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard took the loss in net for Detroit as he allowed 5 goals on 45 of Arizona’s shots on the night.

On the year the Red Wings are 9-26-3 and are in 8th place in the Atlantic Division.  The Red Wings are led in points and assists by Tyler Bertuzzi who has 30 points this season to go along with 16 assists.  The Red Wings are also led in goals by Bertuzzi who has scored 14 on the year with 2 coming while on the power play.  Detroit goalie Jonathan Bernier is 7-10-2 with a 3.24 goals against average this season.  Jimmy Howard is 2-12-1 with a goals against average of 4.02 so far this year.  Detroit enters Saturday’s game with 1 player listed on their injury report as Adam Erne is listed as day to day.

The Florida Panthers welcome the Detroit Red Wings to town on Saturday night after losing their last game against the Tampa Bay Lightning by the score of 6-1.  The Panthers received their lone goal on the night from Jonathan Huberdeau who scored on the power play at 2:47 of the second period with assists from Aaron Ekblad and Vincent Trocheck.  Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky took the loss in net for the Panthers as he allowed 6 goals on 34 of Tampa Bay’s shots in the game.

The Panthers are now 18-13-5 on the season which puts them in 4th place in the Atlantic Division. Jonathan Huberdeau leads Florida in points with 48 and in assists with 34 on the season.  Huberdeau also leads Florida in goals as he has recorded 14 so far this year with 3 coming while on the power play.  Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is 13-10-4 with 1 shutout and a 3.20 goals against average.  Florida’s backup goalie, Chris Driedger is 2-1-0 with 1 shutout and a goals against average of 1.69. Florida enters Saturday’s game with 2 players listed on their injury report as Aaron Ekblad and Jayce Hawryluk are both listed as day to day.

The Detroit Red Wings have scored an average of 2.16 goals per game this season while allowing 3.92 goals per game.  The Florida Panthers have scored an average of 3.44 goals per game on the year while allowing an average of 3.28 goals per game.  In their last 5 games, the Red Wings are 1-4 and have lost 4 games in a row while the Panthers are 3-2 as their loss to Tampa Bay snapped a 3 game winning streak.  The Panthers won the first meeting of the season between these two teams, with the Panthers shutting out the Red Wings by the score of 4-0 in a game played on Florida’s home ice.  I will be going with the Panthers in this one as they are 3-0-0 in their last 3 games against the Red Wings.  In their last 3 games, Florida has outscored Detroit by and average of 4.67 to 1.33.  Florida wins this one 4-1.
