NHL action comes to the BB&T Center where the Florida Panthers host the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers haven’t had consistency at either end of the ice and the result is no postseason in 2017-18. Edmonton has lost back to back contests following a 4-3 OT defeat to the San Jose Sharks where Frake Caggiula, Oscar Klefbom and Ryan Nuggent-Hopkins scored while Al Montoya  took the loss with four goals allowed on 40 shots.

The Sharks saw Tomas Hertl score twice including the winner in the extra session while Logan Couture and Brenden Dillon also lit the lamp. Couture also logged a pair of helpers for San Jose and Martin Jones improved to 24-18-6 with a 25 save effort.

The Florida Panthers have been one of the hottest tams in the game for weeks and have shown no signs of slowing which has the team in 4th in the Atlantic. Florida has won three of four after downing Boston 3-0  on Thursday where the Bruins saw Anton Khudobin allow three goals on 28 shots.

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in he first period on goals by Aaron Ekblad and Nick Bjugstad with Vincent Trocheck lighting the lamp in the third on the power play. Evgenii Dadonov supplied a pair of assists for Florida while James Reimer brushed aside 46 shots for the shutout.

Under is 4-0 in Oilers last 4 games playing on 2 days rest and under is 3-0-1 in Oilers last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and Oilers are 4-1 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Panthers are 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games and over is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 vs. Western Conference and Panthers are 14-2 in their last 16 vs. a team with a losing record. Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Oilers are 8-0 in the last 8 meetings in Florida and road team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.

Edmonton has dominated this matchup but goals have been scored in this matchup of late so I’ll take a poke at the over…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
