The Senators look for their second straight win as they head into Sunrise to take on the winless Florida Panthers.
The Ottawa Senators have a new look about them this season as some familiar faces changed addresses in the offseason and they introduced a new team captain but the mantra of being the “Pesky Sens” seems to have stuck and they played the part in their last game. Ottawa is led up front by the freshly re-signed Bobby Ryan and he will show case his offensive talents alongside Kyle Turris, Milan Michalek, Erik Karlsson and the like in what could be a nice bounce back season for Ottawa who is still trying to sort out their goaltending situation. The Sens have gone back and forth with veteran Craig Anderson and youngster Robin Lehner with the latter getting the team’s lone victory and while Lehner is the long term plan for the Sens he could very well land the starter’s job this season and relegate Andersen to the backup role.
The Panthers are a disaster and while they made some upgrades in the offseason and drafted a franchise defender in Aaron Ekblad things off the ice are in turmoil. The Panthers had their lowest ever fan attendance for their home opener that rivaled the numbers of some junior level crowds which only illustrates the point further that hockey in Florida just simply isn’t catching on and is perhaps time to consider relocation. The Panthers do have a ton of young talent that will be the focal point of the team’s core moving forward but to me this is going to be another long season for the Cats and until they bring in some other pieces they should stay as league doormats. The Senators to me are the far better team and should have no trouble getting the win here and it is a bonus that we are getting them at this price.
