The Senators continue their push at a wild card spot as they head into Sunrise to do battle with the Florida Panthers.
The Senators look to keep their slim playoff hopes intact as they take on a very tough Florida Panthers team on Thursday night in a game that could very well make or break their season with momentum greatly shifting in one direction or the other based on the outcome. The Sens have been in this position before and much like last year we have seen a late push from goaltender Andrew Hammond, and while the results haven’t been as spectacular they are still in a good position to challenge for a wild card spot. However, the Sens need to push now as they have but 14 games remaining on their schedule and they have some stiff competition in that spa, but it is only fitting they will have to get through some of the game’s top teams in order to qualify for the Stanley Cup.
The Panthers meanwhile are in a dog fight with the Bruins and Lightning in the Atlantic division as the three sides are separated by just two points in a race that could very well come down to the final day of the regular season. The Panthers hold a game in hand on the Bolts and two on the Bruins so at the moment they are in control of their own destiny, but it is games like this one that they need to win if they’re going to be considered Cup contenders in the Eastern Conference. This should be a great game between two hungry teams but the difference in the end for me is the play of the Florida blue line and they match up quite well against a Sens side that could be on their last rope.
