The Blues look to continue their early season success as they head on the road to take on the hapless Florida Panthers.
The Blues have quietly started the season as one of the league’s hottest teams as they sport a 7-1-2 mark on the year but because they haven’t played nearly as many games as some they are under the radar in the league standings. That bill should fit the Blues just fine as they continue to get underrated but they continue to dish out victories and while they don’t have a ton of superstar names on the roster they have a bunch of guys with heart and hustle and who play for the name on the front. Jaroslav Halak has been brilliant the Blues’ crease this season but they are going with Brian Elliott here who still gives the Blues a decisive edge in goal. Heading into Florida the Blues have won back to back games and are 2-0-1 outside of Missouri while the Panthers are just 2-3-2 on home ice.
The Panthers are in the midst of a massive overhaul just two seasons removed from winning the Southeast division and forcing the eventual Eastern Conference champions from New Jersey to overtime in game seven of the opening round of the playoffs. Florida has some young talent that will be the cornerstone of the franchise moving forward but they lack a solid core, game breaking talent, and just overall leadership as they’re going to have a tough year and are primed for another top three draft pick. The Cats host one of the league’s best teams and while they have shown up against some of the league’s best at home this year as they beat the Penguins and lost tough ones to the Bruins and Blackhawks I think tonight is a different story. Look for the Blues to dominate this one despite having to play against the Bolts on Saturday.
