The Capitals look to extend their winning streak to four games as they head to Sunrise to take on the Panthers who have lost 6 of 10.
The Capitals have started to make a push in the Metropolitan division as they have ripped off three straight victories and have a firm grasp on second place in the division behind their archrivals from Pittsburgh. The Caps seem to perform in direct correlation to Alex Ovechkin’s production and he has been brilliant of late notching a hat trick earlier this week and he will look to continue his personal and as such the team’s success on the road in Florida. Despite the three game streak the Caps have lost 5 of their last 10 which has distanced them from the division lead but they have a favourable matchup against a very bad Panthers team who will look to Tim Thomas for a win tonight. Braden Holtby who has been up and down this season will counter for the visitors as he aims for his 14th victory of the season.
The Panthers are struggling as many people expected they would to start the season as they have just 10 victories in 32 chances and sit in second to last place in the Atlantic division and third last in the Eastern Conference. Florida does have some young talent that will act as the foundation for the team for years to come but until they can add some pieces and get their youngsters some more in game experience I think it will be a tough go for the Panthers. They catch a Capitals team who has won three straight contests and who sport a 6-5-2 record on the road this season but the Caps always seem to play down to their opponent’s level in game’s like these. While Thomas and Holtby have both looked good at times this season they have both looked equally as bad at others and I am expecting the latter in this spot as this one goes over the total with ease.
