The BB&T Center and the Florida Panthers host the Metropolitan leading Washington Capitals.
The Washington Capitals might be atop the Metropolitan but I refer to this team as being undependable. Washington’s bid for back to back victories fell by the wayside in a 4-2 defeat to visiting Tampa Bay with Lars Eller and Alex Ovechkin provided the offense while Braden Holtby gave up four goals on 19 shots.
The Lightning took a 3-0 lead in the first period with Brayden point scoring twice with Chris Kunitz also lighting the lamp. Nikita Kucherov rounded out the Tampa Bay attack with a third period tally while Ryan Callahan added a pair of helpers to make a winner of Andrei Vasilezskiy and his 35 stops.
The Florida Panthers were red hot and making a solid bid for a postseason berth but the team has dropped consecutive contests after winning seven of eight. Florida comes off of a 1-0 defeat at the Toronto Maples who have been busy solidifying their playoff position.
The Panthers played exceptionally well defensively with the high powered Maple Leafs lone goal coming off the stick of James van Riemsdyk with only 29 seconds remaining in the first period. Frederik Andersen picked up the win for Toronto with a monster 40 save performance while Roberto Luongo stopped 30 shots for Florida.
Over is 10-1 in Capitals last 11 Thursday games and over is 7-1 in Capitals last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and over is 6-1 in Capitals last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation and Panthers are 1-11 in their last 12 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation and Panthers are 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Road team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and Capitals are 15-6 in the last 21 meetings and Capitals are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Florida.
I’m not thrilled with this one because I believe Washington has the edge and I don’t like how they have been playing…
