The Kings look to close out the regular season with a victory while eclipsing the 100-point mark as they host the Western Conference leading Ducks at the Staples Centre.
Anaheim is in good position to claim the top seed in the Western Conference with a win in their final two games over the weekend including Saturday night`s encounter with the Los Angeles Kings. The Ducks find themselves a single point up on the Blues and Avalanche atop the Western Conference but also have a game in hand on both teams and have played as many games as the Boston Bruins with whom they`re competing for the overall league title. The Ducks have been very strong since the puck dropped to open the regular season and look like a team poised to go on a deep playoff run based on the investment they have made into building a strong regular season resume. Frederik Andersen is expected to get the call tonight as he will go up against Jonathan Quick.
The Kings are locked into a first round series with their in-state rivals from San Jose in what is to me the most intriguing first round matchup of this postseason and the victor has a very good chance at going to the Cup finals. Los Angeles are two years removed from hoisting the Stanley Cup which is sandwiched in between to Chicago victories and both teams are once again contenders to win the playoff championship but it won`t come easy. The Kings have a winning recipe and if Quick can continue to prove he is one of the best goalies in the league it`ll be tough to stop LA as they possess all the facets of a Cup winning team and getting through San Jose would be a huge confidence booster. Before we get there through these teams duke it out in Los Angeles and to me the Kings are the better teams despite what the standings suggest and I`ll take them at a nice price against an overrated Ducks squad.
