The Los Angeles Kings look to shake off their home losing skid as they welcome the Arizona Coyotes to town on Saturday night.
The Coyotes have had a tough season and things don’t appear as though they are going to turn around despite a decent stretch before the all-star break and with the Kings in desperation mode after a sluggish stretch on home ice this could be a tough evening for Arizona. The Coyotes do have some talented pieces but could very well sell some of them off at the trade deadline in order to fully commit to the rebuild, and with top pick in the draft a very real possibility they could strike gold if they can get franchise defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. Arizona is expected to send Antii Raanta to the crease here as he will face off against Jonathan Quick who remains one of the league’s top goaltenders despite not having the top end stats we are used to seeing from him.
The Kings meanwhile have stumbled to a 3-8 record in their last 11 contests and have lost five of their last six at the Staples Center which is completely uncharacteristic of them as they are usually a tough out on home ice. The Kings do have a team worthy of being a playoff contender and with their win as a huge dog in Dallas earlier this week is evidence of this is a team that can take down some of the league’s top teams regardless of whether or not they are struggling to generate wins. Los Angeles is shockingly bad against the Coyotes though as they are winless in their last four against have dropped five in a row to the Coyotes on home ice and while trends are met to be broken they are certainly worthy of bringing up.
The Coyotes are 12-40 in their last 52 overall and 1-5 in their last six Saturday games while the Kings are 1-5 in their last six against the Pacific and 1-5 in their last six home games. Arizona is not a great team and the Kings need to respond in a hurry but Arizona has been very good in this series and they are worth a shot here.
