The Kings look to get back in the win column with a victory over the Bruins in a pivotal show down between two of the league's best teams.
The Boston Bruins were sent home early in the playoffs last season falling to the Montreal Canadiens in seven games at the Garden in the Eastern Conference semi-finals and ever since that loss they have been playing with a sense of purpose. The B's are 14-9-1 heading into Monday's encounter with the Ducks (currently trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes) but are sitting in fourth place in the Atlantic division and while many expected the team to be derailed after losing Zdeno Chara they have actually played decently well considering and will be out looking for blood in this one against the Kings. Boston is a deep team but don't seem to have the same spark that we are used to seeing but perhaps a trip to the Staples Center against the defending Cup champs is the recipe to get this team going as they need a jump start or else they'll fall behind in the division. Niklas Svedberg will likely get the call as Tuukka Rask was in the crease last night and he will go up against Jonathan Quick for the Kings.
Los Angeles dropped their season opener as they were raising the Stanley Cup banner to the rafters but they have gone on a tear since and look like a team ready to make another push in the playoffs and could very well repeat as league champs. The Kings have been remarkable on home ice as they are 10-3-1 at the Staples Center and catch a Bruins team that is a modest 5-4-1 on the road and are playing in a back to back after a show down with another tough opponent in Anaheim last night. The Kings are favoured in this spot but not as highly as you'd might think as the Bruins continue to get respect from the odds makers and while the line could change based on starting goalies I think getting the Kings at a generous price is well worth it as I think LA wins and I think they can do it in 60 minutes. Getting LA on the puck line will be a very juicy price as well though I think the safer bet is grabbing them at -145 before it starts to move.
