The Sabres look to avoid a second straight West coast beat down as they head into the Staples Centre to take on the defending champs after losing to the Ducks in Anaheim last night.
The Buffalo Sabres were the worst team in the league last season and underwent a number of changes both on and off the ice and while they are better at least on paper this season they have struggled to get into any sort of groove. The Sabres have just one victory on the year compared to their six losses and while it is early in the season I think it is safe to say that the Sabres will have a tough go again this season and get set for another top end draft pick to add to their young core. Buffalo sent Sam Reinhart back to junior as the second overall pick will go back for another season of grooming before trying to stick with the team next year but they do have some great players that should be able to improve on last year's mark, though that isn't saying a whole lot. The Sabres are playing in a back to back and are ridiculous underdogs in one of the most lopsided lines I have ever seen for an NHL game.
The Kings have certainly played the part of defending Cup champions as they have won four games in a row since losing their season opener to the San Jose Sharks and they are the odds on favourite to make it five here against the lowly Sabres. The Kings are still very much a championship team and have the same core of players back from last year's bunch but with key defenseman Slava Voynov suspended indefinitely due to charges of domestic violence it'll be interesting to see how they shift the lineup to account for that void. This game is one that should go in one way in very convincing fashion which is why the Kings are -350 favourites and while it is likely that the Kings win and win big there is just absolutely no value in taking LA even to win by two goals. The only hope we have here is for a play on the total and with the Sabres playing last night in a tight contest with Anaheim and the legs likely going from under them I think we see a high scoring affair that puts us over the number,.
