The Kings look to shake off a tough shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday as they host the Calgary Flames at the Staples Center on Monday.
The Flames head into Monday's action looking to continue their ascent up the Pacific division standings and record their fourth win in a row in the process but they know it'll be a tough matchup against the defending champs who will look to leapfrog the Flames for third in the division. Calgary has been the surprise team of the season in the Western Conference as many pundits left them for dead in the preseason but they have stormed out and played some very solid hockey this season despite having a lengthy losing skid that could have cost them their season., The Flames need to go all in at this point as they are too far removed from adding any significant pieces through the draft and it could be a lost season if they can't make the playoffs but with the confidence and momentum they have built it would be very nice to see them get in even as a wild card in the crazy competitive Western Conference.
The Kings suffered a tough loss to the Ducks on home ice over the weekend and after it looked like they had two points in the bag the Ducks rallied and forced overtime and ultimately took the second point in the shootout. The Kings are the defending champions for a reason and they can turn up the intensity and hammer any team in the league on any given night but they have struggled to find that consistency this season especially on the road where they have a disappointing 5-8-6 record – one that isn't typically associated with a championship caliber team. Luckily for the Kings they have played a ton of game at home where they are a much better 15-6-5 and they stay at home in this one and while the line is heavy I think LA rebounds here and shows the Flames who are an up and comer what it means to be in the NHL limelight.
