The Kings look to make a push towards the postseason with a statement win at home against the Oilers who are playing their second game in as many nights.
The Edmonton Oilers have been a league doormat for the last 10 years and haven't even sniffed a playoff spot in that span and their streak of misery continues this season as they are once again near the bottom of the league standings. Edmonton has gone through another coaching change and nothing seems to be working in the former City of Champions and fans are growing tiresome of the lack of production on the ice and with another top end projected talent on its way in this year's draft it'll be interesting to see if Edmonton can right the ship. The Oilers got waxed in Anaheim last night and things don't get any easier as they head into the Staples Center to take on the defending champs who are fighting tooth and nail to get into the playoffs and will be full steam ahead in this one.
The Kings haven't had the season many thought they would heading into the year and thanks in large part to the absence of Slava Voynov the team has underachieved and is finally now competing at the top level with the season running out. LA is still a great team and are deserved of a playoff spot and if they can get it their team experience and ability to win the big game could lead to a couple of playoff “upsets” and this team could land right back in the Western Conference finals. LA needs this win and while Edmonton can pull off a shock here and there and usually play decently well against the Kings this is neither the time nor the place for that and the Kings cruise in this one.
