The Line: Los Angeles Kings / New York Rangers --- Over/Under:
Late night NHL action features the Los Angeles Kings hosting the New York Rangers on Sunday.
The New York Rangers would like to climb the standings in the Metropolitan and string a few wins together is a start. New York saw their opportunity at a three game winning streak go by the wayside in a 3-1 defeat at the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Pavel Buchnevich scored the Rangers goal in the second with Henrik Lundqvist stopping 34 shots.
Colorado received scoring off the sticks of Erik Johnson, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen on the empty net. All three added assists and Jonathan Bernier improved to 13-7-1 with a 27 save performance for the surging Avalanche.
The Los Angeles Kings need an immediate change of momentum to move up from 4th in the Pacific. Los Angeles has been having problems scoring of late and the defense hasn’t helped the situation. The Kings are mired in a six game slide following a 21 defeat at the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.
Defense dominated this one with the Ducks taking the lead at 2:05 of the third before Los Angeles got the equalizer at 4:48 on an Alex Iafallo tally. Ryan Kessler scored what would be the winner at 12:21 and the respective defense took over. John Gibson recorded 23 saves to get the win for Anaheim with Jonathan Quick making 29 saves in the loss.
Over is 4-0 in Rangers last 4 overall and under is 4-0 in Rangers last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. Kings are 4-0 in their last 4 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and under is 3-0-1 in Kings last 4 Sunday games and Kings are 0-5 in their last 5 home games. Over is 3-1-2 in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles and over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings.
I don’t see a clear cut favorite so I’ll simply go with the better odds and nothing else…
