The New York Rangers try to bounce back when they head to Los Angeles to take on the Kings on Monday night.
It was a disappointing debut for the Blueshirts on Thursday night as they dropped their opener to the Phoenix Coyotes by a score of 4-1. New York showed ability in transitioning the puck and creating plays off of the rush but they were a little sloppy in their own end and it cost them. The good news is that they did find a way to convert on the power play, a problem much of the season last year, as Marc Staal scored the only Rangers goal with the an advantage. Henrik Lundqvist wasn't sharpt but he's notoriously a slow starter so there's nothing to worry about there. This road trip that they're on to start the season is extremely rough however so they're going to need to find a way to get points because it's not going to get any easier.
Los Angeles hasn't been their sharp defensive selves in the earlier going and that seems to have irritated Jonathan Quick who was pulled after allowing four goals the other night against Winnipeg. Quick wasn't thrilled with the play in front of him but it's not something that's expected to become a trend because the Kings are still one of the best defensive teams in the league. Expect their goaltender to rebound here as he's facing a lackluster offense and will want to show that he's elite just like Lundqvist.
