The Sharks head into the Staples Centre looking for yet another victory while the Kings play in the second game in a row after playing in Phoenix last night.
San Jose has been the talk of the league so far as they’re tops in the league with 21 points and a ridiculous 10-1-1 mark through their first 12 contests. San Jose is coming off two huge road wins in Ottawa and Montreal which are not easy places to play in by any means and will look for their 11th win of the season here tonight. Antii Niemi has been brilliant in the Sharks’ crease all season long and he will get the call here tonight as he will likely square off against Jonathan Quick but we could see former Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens come in due to the back to back. Either way the Sharks have a ton of offensive weapons and will be a dangerous team every single night. Despite their ridiculous record the Sharks have lost both of their games away from home so if there is any incentive for the Kings to play well it is in the fact that San Jose seems to be a little more vulnerable on the road.
The Kings are a very solid team and will most certainly challenge the Sharks for top spot in the Pacific division as well as the Western Conference and a game like this could be a preview of the West Finals in June. Los Angeles is just as deep as the Sharks up front in terms of total talent but it is the visitors who are deeper down the middle as they have the best trio of centermen in the league and that gives them a huge advantage. This is going to be a very entertaining contest but due to the fact that LA played in a tight battle against another division rival last night in Phoenix I am siding with the Sharks in this spot. You can’t argue against them right now and while the Kings are a nice value play as the teams are very close I am sticking with the Sharks until further notice.
