The San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings meet in NHL action from the Staples Center on Thursday night.

The San Jose Sharks will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 7-3 loss at home to Vegas in their last outing. Logan Couture opened the scoring for the Sharks just :30 into the game before Vegas responded with a pair of goals 2:11 apart to take the lead. Joe Thornton tied the game just before the midway point of the period but Vegas would again take the lead just 2:30 later, leading to a goalie change for the Sharks. Vegas would add to their lead with the lone goal of the second and add a 5th goal in the first minute of the 3rd period before Couture scored his 2nd goal of the game on the power play to cut the deficit to 5-3. That’s as close as the Sharks would get though, as Vegas added an empty-netter and then another power play goal for good measure to deny the Sharks a playoff-clinching win for another night. Martin Jones allowed 3 goals on 11 shots but was pulled and didn’t factor in the decision while Aaron Dell took the loss to fall to 9-7-3 this season after allowing 3 goals on 30 shots faced.

The Los Angeles Kings will also be looking to snap a 3-game skid after a 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their last outing. Winnipeg opened a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 1:05 apart but L.A. would respond just 2:16 later thanks to Sean Walker’s 3rd goal of the season. Los Angeles would tie the game at two thanks to Dustin Brown’s 19th of the year just after the midway point of the 2nd period but Winnipeg would re-take the lead for good just over six minutes later and hold onto the lead throughout the 2nd and through the entire 3rd period, sending the Kings back empty-handed. Jack Campbell took the loss, falling to 7-13-1 after allowing all 3 goals on 28 shots faced in the losing effort.

San Jose is 22-10 in their last 32 games overall and 37-15 in their last 52 division games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite. Los Angeles is 25-52 in their last 77 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 division games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. San Jose is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 10-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.

Both of these teams are currently mired in 3-game losing streaks, but the difference for me is that San Jose is still fighting to clinch a playoff spot while the Kings have been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. San Jose has also had lots of success against the Kings lately, including owning L.A. at the Staples Center, so all in all, even on the road, the price isn’t that bad. I’ll lay the juice with the Sharks on the road to snap their losing streak here.
