Monday NHL action pits the St. Louis Blues against the Los Angeles Kings.
The St. Louis Blues avoided a third straight loss with a 3-2 victory against visiting Ottawa on Saturday. Nick Paul gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the first and Magnus Paajarvi lit the lamp in the third while Craig Anderson gave up all three goals on 38 shots to get the loss.
St. Louis received offense from Vladimir Tarasenko, Vince Dunn and Carl Gunnarsson. Ryan O’Reilly added an assist and Jordan Binnington stopped 28 shots to get the win for the Blues.
The Los Angeles Kings look to get back in the win column following a 7-1 defeat at Colorado on Saturday. Ilya Kovalchuk broke the shutout for the Kings with a power play tally in the third. Jonathan Quick took the loss for Los Angeles with five goals allowed on 22 shots before Jack Campbell stopped 16-18 shots in relief.
Mikko Rantanen led the Avalanche offensive explosion with a pair of markers with Carl Soderberg, Gabriel Landeskog, Tyson Barrie, Sheldon Dries and Colin Wilson also reaching the scoring column.
Barrie, Matt Calvert and Nathan MacKinnon supplied Colorado with a pair of helpers each and Semyon Varlamov recorded 30 saves to get the win.
