Monday NHL action pits the St. Louis Blues against the Los Angeles Kings.

The St. Louis Blues avoided a third straight loss with a 3-2 victory against visiting Ottawa on Saturday. Nick Paul gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the first and Magnus Paajarvi lit the lamp in the third while Craig Anderson gave up all three goals on 38 shots to get the loss.

St. Louis received offense from Vladimir Tarasenko, Vince Dunn and Carl Gunnarsson. Ryan O’Reilly added an assist and Jordan Binnington stopped 28 shots to get the win for the Blues.

The Los Angeles Kings look to get back in the win column following a 7-1 defeat at Colorado on Saturday. Ilya Kovalchuk broke the shutout for the Kings with a power play tally in the third. Jonathan Quick took the loss for Los Angeles with five goals allowed on 22 shots before Jack Campbell stopped 16-18 shots in relief.

Mikko Rantanen led the Avalanche offensive explosion with a pair of markers with Carl Soderberg, Gabriel Landeskog, Tyson Barrie, Sheldon Dries and Colin Wilson also reaching the scoring column.

Barrie, Matt Calvert and Nathan MacKinnon supplied Colorado with a pair of helpers each and Semyon Varlamov recorded 30 saves to get the win.

Under is 4-0-1 in Blues last 5 vs. Western Conference and under is 5-0-1 in Blues last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-0 in Blues last 4 games following a win. Kings are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss of 3 or more goals and Kings are 5-1 in their last 6 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and under is 4-1 in Kings last 5 vs. Central. Blues are 3-12 in the last 15 meetings in Los Angeles and road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meeting and under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

Los Angeles has to control the scoreboard due to the make up of their team and both have been playing to the under which is what I’m looking at…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
