The St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings meet Thursday in NHL action at the Staples Center.
The St. Louis Blues look for another win after splitting their last eight games. The St. Louis Blues are averaging 2.9 goals per game and are scoring on 18.9 percent of their power play opportunities. Vladimir Tarasenko leads St. Louis with 27 goals, Ryan O'Reilly has 39 assists and Colton Parayko has 154 shots on goal. Defensively, the St. Louis Blues are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 81.3 percent of their opponents power plays. Jake Allen has given up 109 goals on 1,097 shots faced and Jordan Binnington has allowed 34 goals on 508 shots. The St. Louis Blues have allowed four or more goals in four of their last seven games.
The Los Angeles Kings could use a win after losing 11 of their last 12 games. The Los Angeles Kings are averaging 2.4 goals per game and are scoring on 15.7 percent of their power play opportunities. Anze Kopitar leads Los Angeles with 19 goals, Drew Doughty has 31 assists and Dustin Brown has 134 shots on goal. Defensively, the Los Angeles Kings are allowing 3.1 goals per game and are killing 75 percent of their opponents power plays. Jonathan Quick has given up 115 goals on 1,058 shots faced and Jack Campbell has allowed 44 goals on 600 shots. The Los Angeles Kings have allowed three or more goals in their last six games.
The Blues are 9-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite, 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road favorite and 13-4 in their last 17 overall. The Kings are 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home underdog, 1-7 in their last 8 games playing on 1 days rest and 1-10 in their last 11 games as an underdog. The Blues are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings in Los Angeles and 10-21 in the last 31 meetings. The under is 18-7-1 in Blues last 26 overall. The over is 5-1 in Kings last 6 overall.
I considered the Los Angeles Kings and the plus money given the history between these two teams and the fact they have the rest advantage at home. However, the Kings are playing so bad at the moment that I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. The St. Louis Blues have been money as a favorite during this winning stretch and the offense comes in hot, which is bad news for a struggling LA defense. The price isn't too crazy when you consider the form of both these clubs. I'll side with the Blues for obvious reasons.
