The Los Angeles Kings look to continue their dominance over the Washington Capitals when the two sides meet up at the Staples Center on Monday night.
The Capitals have had their way with almost every team in the NHL over the last couple of seasons and come into Monday’s night’s encounter with the Kings with a 5-0 record in their last 5 contests against teams from the Western Conference, but if there one team who has had the defending champions’ number it is the Kings. Washington heads into Los Angeles with a very disappointing 4-12 mark in their last 16 contests against the Kings and the home team is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings between these two sides and when playing in the City of Angels the Capitals have dropped a whopping 8 games in a row. Look for the Capitals to have these trends in mind when the two teams face off on Monday night as Washington is battling for top spot in the Metro division while the Kings still have an outside shot at making a run to the playoffs and a win against the defending champs could be the spark they need.
The Kings come into tonight’s game on the heels of 4 straight losses and after a surge after the all-star break it looks as though the Kings could very well be back on the decline as they haven’t had the season many expected from them and could very well be moving on from a handful of quality pieces at the deadline. Los Angeles is 4-11 in their last 15 games against teams from the Eastern Conference but are 10-4 in their last 14 games on a Monday and with the Capitals playing last night against the Anaheim Ducks we can expect to see a back up goaltender and likely a tired Capitals side.
The Caps are 4-0 in their last 4 games against the Pacific and are 3-7 in their last 10 games as a favorite while the Kings are winless in their last 4 against a team with a winning record and have hit the over in 7 of their last 8 games against the East. This one figures to be a high scoring contest and while the value here is cheap on the Caps it looks even more inviting to see this one go over the number.
