The Xcel Energy Center and the Minnesota Wild clash with the Detroit Red Wings in NHL hockey.
The Detroit Red Wings haven’t missed the playoffs in forever which means they need a very hot finish to the season because the season is in jeopardy. The Red Wings never got their offense going in a 2-1 road loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday for loss number three in a row. Peter Mrazak was outstanding despite the defeat with a monster 37 save performance. On the flip side, the Blue Jackets are eyeing positioning for the postseason and received goals from Boone Jenner and Cam Atkinson with Brandon Dubinsky logging a pair of helpers. Sergei Bobrovsky was airtight between the pipes with a hefty 35 saves.
The Minnesota Wild have been red hot for the majority of the season but perhaps their biggest strength has been avoiding losing streaks. The Wild avoided back to back defeats with a 2-1, shootout victory versus the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night. Nino Niederreiter gave Minnesota their lone tally in regulation with Mikko Koivu scoring the lone goal in the SO with Zach Parise and Jason Pominville missing. Devan Dubnyk picked up the victory with a 26 save performance. The lone Tampa Bay offense came off the stick of Nate Prosser and Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded 37 stops in absorbing the loss that ended a two game winning streak.
The Red Wings are 1-6 in their last 7 Sunday games and the Red Wings are 1-6 in their last 7 road games while the under is 4-1 in Red Wings last 5 games playing on 0 days rest. The Wild are 10-1 in their last 11 vs. Atlantic and the over is 9-1 in Wild last 10 home games while the over is 7-1 in Wild last 8 vs. Eastern Conference. The under is 5-0-3 in the last 8 meetings in Minnesota and the over is 5-1-4 in the last 10 meetings while the Red Wings are 34-14-3 in the last 51 meetings.
The Red Wings have been nothing but dominant in this match up but while waiting for goalies I lean over…
