The Senators play their second game in as many nights after getting a win in Winnipeg last night as they travel to Minnesota to face the Wild.
The Senators faced a bittersweet results in Winnipeg last night as they held on for a 2-1 victory against the Jets but thanks to Philadelphia’s win against the Capitals it officially eliminated Ottawa from the playoffs and now they will play out the string of their games starting tonight against the Wild. Ottawa has had a disappointing season as they were expected to be a playoff contender after their magical run last year but they couldn’t find the same level of consistency, and while Erik Karlsson had a career year and should lock up another Norris Trophy the team couldn’t match his effort on a nightly basis. Now with the playoffs out of mind, the Sens may stumble down the stretch as they get set for an offseason that could be filled with change.
The Wild head into this one in a very tough spot in the Western Conference as they currently sit in a wild card spot but with just a five point cushion they are far from in the clear. Minnesota has been playing very well of late and could jump over the Predators for the first wild card spot in the West and as winners of six in a row and seven of their last 10 they are on fire and no one would be surprised to see the Wild go on a deep playoff push. Minny is always strong at home and now they get the Sens in a back to back as an emotionally deflated group which spells an absolute nightmare for Ottawa.
