The Penguins head into Minnesota on Saturday looking to shake out of their pre-Christmas funk and get back in the mix in the Metro while the Wild look for their seventh win in 10 games.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have to be one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season as they have gone from a preseason contender to sixth in their division and sit 17 points behind the division leading Capitals. The Pens were expected to do big things in the offensive zone with the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, and Chris Kunitz on the roster but they have fallen flat and have the league’s third worst offense approaching the new year and if they are going to turn things around they need to get their big guns rolling.
The Wild meanwhile head into tonight’s game sitting in fourth place in the Central division and trail the second seeded Blues by just four points which should make the race for the three playoff spots very exciting. Minnesota has been consistent this season and have been spectacular on home ice but if they are going to become a threat to win the West they need to find a way to win hockey games on the road as they are a modest 5-5-5 outside of Minnesota this season and come playoff time they will have to win big games on the road. However, tonight they are at home and that suits us well as the Pens go back with Matt Murray and with Dubnyk at the other end it gives us a big edge.
