The Minnesota Wild match up with the St Louis Blues at the Xcel Energy Center in game four on Wednesday.
The St Louis Blues were in the running for the best record in the Western Conference until the end of the season. That was then and this is now as the Blues have not been able to get their defense and scoring on the same page except in their game two victory. The bottom line is the Wild hold a 2-1 series lead following a 3-0 decision on Monday at the Xcel Energy Center. The Blues offensive woes were evident as they managed just 17 shots on goal on Monday night. The defense played well with a pair of goals allowed before Minnesota added an empty netter but as I always say, you have to be able to score in any sport. Jake Allen gave up a pair of goals on 23 shots to take the loss.
The Minnesota Wild have been more of a defense first squad the majority of the season and have been steady defensively through three games. The Wild haven’t been too shabby at the offensive end but in truth haven’t needed to light up the scoreboard. The trend continued in game number three with a scoreless first 20 minutes turning in to a 2-0 lead heading in to the final period. I liken the Wild to the Rangers when they have a lead going in to the third because it’s simply difficult to score on these guys. Jason Pominville and Zach Parise each scored and added assists in the second while Nino Niederreiter potted an empty netter. That was plenty of scoring for Devan Dubnyk who brushed aside 17 shots for the only shutout in the postseason.
The under is 3-0-1 in Blues last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while St Louis are 1-6 in their last 7 Conference Quarterfinals games with the under going 5-1-2 in Blues last 8 Wednesday games. The under is 3-0-2 in Wild last 5 Wednesday games and 2-0-3 in Wild last 5 home game while the over is 3-0-3 in Wild last 6 games following a win. The home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Blues are 12-5 in the last 17 meetings. We don’t have goalies for this yet but I’m looking at team totals so please check back…
