The Winnipeg Jets look to build on their overtime win against the Hurricanes in their season opener as they take on the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
The Jets clawed their way back in their season opener at the MTS Centre against Carolina and will look to make it two for two as they take on their arch rivals from Minnesota in what should be a raucous atmosphere at the Xcel Energy Center. Winnipeg is expected to make a push towards the playoffs this season but they have a number of holes they need to address and part of it has to deal with the absence of Jacob Trouba who is holding out until he is traded and while he is considered the third defenseman on the team behind Tyler Myers and Dustin Byfuglien he is a top young blue liner and his presence will be felt moving forward until they can get a serviceable return.
The Wild dropped their season opener and will be hoping a trip home in front of their loud and passionate fans will give them the edge they need to get their first win of the season against a team that is quickly becoming their bitter rivals. The Wild were a playoff team last season and should be in a good position to get back there this year despite an anticipated regression from most forecasters as they have a solid roster across the board and a win tonight will get them started.
The Jets are 5-0 in their last five overall, 4-0 in their last four against the Western Conference, and 4-1 in their last five following a win while the Wild are 2-10 in their last 12 overall and 1-5 in their last six home games. However, I like the Wild to get it done here as they are a tough home team to play against and should get it done against an undermanned Jets team.
