The Canadiens look to rebound after an ugly loss in Philadelphia last night as they return home to battle the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre.
The Buffalo Sabres kick off their post all-star break schedule with a road date against the slumping Montreal Canadiens as they look to get out of the Atlantic division basement and close the gap on the middle of the pack. The Sabres got a boost before the break as Robin Lehner made his season debut and while it is going to take a lot more than that before the Sabres get back in the playoff picture he is certainly a nice piece to build around moving forward. Many people expected this to be another growing season for the Sabres as they are very young and don’t quite have the parts yet but another top end draft pick and some forward momentum to close out the year will go a long way to a positive outlook in the off season. Lehner will get the call as he will go up against Ben Scrivens.
The Canadiens are in a full on free fall right now as they dropped yet another decision on the road on Tuesday night an started the second half of the season the way they finished the first. Montreal has gone from division leaders to doormats and even when Carey Price returns it will be tough to imagine they recover in time to be considered a playoff threat. Montreal lost a home and home set with the Columbus Blue Jackets before the break and were doubled up by the Flyers last night making for an interesting match up here against a Sabres side that really has nothing to lose. With this being Buffalo’s first game I think they will be well rested and give the Habs another head ache.
