The Canadiens look to build on their big win over the Stars at home in their last outing as they welcome the Sabres to town on Thursday.
The Buffalo Sabres are looking to shake off a 4-2 home loss to the playoff bound New York Rangers in their last outing as they take to the road to face off against a Canadiens side looking to push a push for a wild card spot and grab their second straight victory in Montreal. The Sabres have been playing better since the all-star break and a large part of that has to do with Robin Lehner, who was acquired in the offseason but hasn’t played a whole lot this season due to injury and hasn’t been able to guide his team to the playoffs like many people expected he could. However, the Sabres do have a ton to look forward to in the years to come as they have a budding young core and could very well add another franchise piece to the mix with a top end draft pick in July.
The Canadiens meanwhile seem to be moving in the opposite direction as they don’t have a ton of prospects in the system and will have to rely on a bounce back season from a lot of their core, but obviously this team can be a playoff contender with a healthy Carey Price in the crease. Montreal is still in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference thanks to their fast start to the season but with 15 games remaining on their schedule including tonight’s home game with the Sabres they know time is running out and they have to make up seven points on the Detroit Red Wings. Montreal hasn’t been a sure thing since November and they have already lost a game at home to Buffalo this season, but this is a bit of a different circumstance and I think in a virtual must win they get it done on home ice.
